Welcome to our latest edition of the Zine! If this is your first time joining us, we’re thrilled to have you here. And if you’ve been with us for a while, welcome back! Regardless of where you fall on that spectrum, we’re genuinely excited to share this journey with you.
We’re kicking off our WILD workshops on September 25th, running from 5:30 to 6:30 PM in Room 6 of the Student Services Building, conveniently located just around the corner from our office. For those who might not be familiar, WILD stands for Women’s Initiative for Leadership Development. It’s a signature event organized by Women’s Student Services, designed to empower and cultivate leadership skills. The weekly workshop is split between a leadership workshop and time spent planning the conference itself.
In the past, WILD has concentrated primarily on women’s leadership. However, this year we’re expanding our vision. Our focus will shift to feminist leadership development, reflecting a broader and more inclusive perspective. This change is purposeful and significant for several reasons. Gender-based oppression doesn’t solely affect individuals who identify as women; it’s a complex issue that transcends traditional gender binaries. By adopting a feminist approach, we can delve into these dynamics more comprehensively and inclusively.
Moreover, feminist leadership development encourages us to explore how various facets of our identities—such as race, class, sexuality, disability, and more—intersect and influence our experiences. Our aim is to foster a supportive environment where we can all grow and succeed together, embracing and valuing the diversity of our collective experiences.
If this sounds intriguing, or if you’re interested in exploring feminist leadership, or even if you’re simply looking for an opportunity to connect with others, we warmly invite you to join our WILD workshops. It’s going to be an enriching and engaging experience, and we can’t wait to see you there!
