The Women’s History Month (WHM) Featured Speaker Event is only one of the wonderful programming events hosted for the month of March. In the 50 years of MSU programming events highlighting women’s achievements and advancing feminist leadership, the WHM’s celebration at MSU is the culmination of efforts by feminist leaders on campus.
Haideh Moghissi is the founder of the Iranian National Union of Women and a pioneer in advancing women’s rights in Iran. Since leaving Iran in 1984, Dr. Moghissi has been educating on topics of gender studies and Islam at York University in Toronto. She received her Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Studies at Queen's University and her B.A. with Honors in Law and Political Science at Tehran University. We have the honor of hearing her speak on March 3, 2023 for our Women’s History Month Featured Speaker Event. Dr. Haideh Moghissi will be speaking to us about the Iranian Women's Rights Movement. If you want to read more about the Iranian Women’s Rights Movement, please visit this link to a previous Zine TOTD on the Iranian Protests.
It is of utmost importance that we learn about the Iranian Women’s Movement from Dr. Moghissi’s perspectives as an Iranian woman with expertise in international collaborative research projects. Dr. Moghissi has research interests in Middle East Politics and Culture, Islam and Gender, ethnicity and immigration, and race relations and policies which has been translated into her work on the research projects, “Diaspora, Islam and Gender” and “Muslim diasporas: Heightened Islamic identity, gender, and cultural resistance”.
In addition to the WHM Featured Speaker Event, there are events being hosted throughout March. Join us for LUNAFEST on the 14th, Skincare Mixer on the 15th, Movie Night: The Farewell on the 16th and many more!
