FEMfest is a celebration of feminism in the arts, brought to MSU by Women*s Student Services, Impact 89FM, MSU Women*s Council, and UAB. FEMfest is an opportunity for incoming and current Spartans to celebrate feminism in visual arts, poetry/spoken word, and music. FEMfest considers feminism to be expansive, not exclusionary. We encourage anyone in the Spartan community who shares our values of inclusivity on the basis of ALL identities to join us in celebrating Fem Fest 2022!
So why did we start FEMfest at MSU? We wanted to celebrate feminism and the arts during Fall Welcome. We in W*SS want to welcome the Spartan community to the Fall 2022 semester by celebrating one another and finding community. FEMfest is a unique opportunity for the Spartan community to celebrate local artists in the MSU and Greater Lansing community, and to find a feminist community amongst one another. This year's FEMfest will be the third annual celebration. In 2020, we held a virtual FEMfest featuring a pre-recorded concert, a guided visual art tutorial, and a spoken word event followed by a poetry workshop. In 2021, we had our first in-person FEMfest featuring live performances in music and spoken word, with visual art presented all around the room. We hope you are able to make it this year to experience more live performances by local musicians and poets, as well as to view visual art around the room and to see live visual art being created! Join us TOMORROW, Wednesday, September 7th at 7:30PM in the MSU Union Ballroom for FEMfest 2022. Admission is free, and there will be free shirts and snacks while supplies last. See you there!
